The Labworth (Cafe) on a Sunny 1st Sept 2004. Janet
Penn kindly sent this in to set the record straight on the design of this building
& it's connection to Sydney:-
The Labworth cafe was designed by Ove Arup in 1932 while he worked
for Christiani & Nielsen before he founded Ove Arup & Partners. The
Sydney Opera house was designed by Jorn Utzon and later by Hall Todd & Littlemore.
Ove Arup & Partners were the civil and structural engineers. So in the sense
that Ove Arup himself was the architect and engineer for Labworth and was one
of the engineers on the Opera House, you could say it was designed by the same
person although he was not responsible for the architecture of the latter.
Regards
Julia, Ove Arup and Partners
