"1958: THIS IS THE DISTAFFCLUB FIRST DINNER AND DANCE, HELD AT THE ADMIRAL JELLICOE, NOT SURE OF THE YEAR ( LATE 50S) BUT I WILL FIND OUT.
MY MUM AND DAD ARE SITTING AT THE TOP TABLE, MUM HAS A WHITE FUR STOLE ON AND DAD IS TO THE LEFT OF HER (WITH A TACHE), BEHIND THEM WAS A GREAT FRIEND OF DADS, ARTHUR ??? (HE WAS THE TOAST MASTER GENERAL AT THE RUSSIAN EMBASSY).
MUM WAS THE FIRST CHAIRWOMAN OF THE CLUB, AND A NOVEL WAY (THAT MUM STARTED) OF KEEPING ALL THE NAMES OF THE CHAIRWOMEN WAS TO WRITE THEIR OWN NAME ON A LARGE TABLECLOTH AND THEN EMBROIDER IT, THE TABLECLOTH IS STILL IN USE NOW."

Shirley Coates adds "Jean Coates (nee Webb) who was also a founder member of the Distaff Club is sitting on the top table to the right of Ken. Thanks Shirley!
