At the turn of the last century Frederick Hester introduced a Horse drawn metal mono rail to Canvey. It picked up passangers at the Ferry and took them to the Summer & Wintergardens Palace at Wintergardens. It then took a route between Central Wall & the now Sommnes Avenue to Smallgains Farm where it turned and probably ended at where the Admiral Jellicoe pub is now. From here the passengers could visit Coxys, Marlbough House & the Pier at Leigh Beck.
